Away from urban is an experiential EDventures program designed to allow students enjoy the informal, outdoor atmosphere and open themselves to new growth experiences. All facets of away from urban programs have been specifically developed to encourage learning. Students learn about motivation, creativity, goal setting, cooperation, social interaction, self-confidence, outdoor survival, environmental awareness and molding the characters and values to become successful leaders.

Program Outline

  • Outdoor Survival: Students learn some of the basic skills of surviving in the wild such as fire building. They learn purifying water, and many others.
  • Character Counts!: reflection time for students to understand, care about, and act on core ethical and citizenship values! It fosters qualities that will help students be successful as citizens, in the workplace, and with the academic curriculum. CHARACTER IS NOT ONE MORE THING ON YOUR PLATE! IT IS THE PLATE!!!
  • Scavenger Hunt: A Nature's Classroom activity that gets students thinking, working together, and searching for answers.
  • International Meal: Experiential simulation of worldwide economic realities. Issues of poverty and hunger are brought to life.
  • Invention Convention: Students design environment-friendly inventions out of recycled trash and present their creations to their peers.
  • Tree Trek: Get to know trees up close and personal. Learn the parts of a tree, get to know a tree blindfolded, and have fun in the process.
  • Smart Paper: Recycle ugly trash by transforming it into beautiful paper.
  • Get Lost: Map and compass orienteering
  • Doctor in the Woods: Students will learn basic first aid protocol.
